About Commando Krav Maga
Moni Aizik, founder and head instructor of the Commando Krav Maga system, describes its approach and methodology,
using the phrase, ‘simplicity is genius’: the simpler a technique or strategy the easier it is to learn, remember
and execute.
Commando Krav Maga & Simplicity
Under stress complicated and involved techniques quickly become forgotten. This is why many martial arts and self-defense
systems fail to work on the street: they don’t take into account the fear and intimidation (stress) that individuals
experience when involved in violent confrontations.
By keeping techniques simple and based upon reflexive movements, the chances of remembering them (and getting them to work)
when placed under pressure increases significantly. Moni Aizik has years of experience as a member of elite Israeli commando
units - working in the middle east - and truly knows the meaning of stress and the importance of having simple solutions to
complex problems when operating under great fear and pressure. The techniques contained in the system are constantly tested to
ensure that an individual can get them to work when placed under the most extreme stress. This stress testing constitutes a
significant part of Commando Krav Maga training.
Commando Krav Maga Battle Tested
The techniques, contained within the Commando Krav Maga system are literally battle-tested and have been proved to work,
time and again, by members of the Israeli Special Forces (Sayeret Units). Moni still trains these units and constantly
looks to improve and update the system based on their experiences.
All of the techniques are subjected to constant questioning e.g. what if an attacker suddenly pulls a knife, what if an attacker
responds to an action in such a way, what if there are multiple attackers etc. If a technique is unable to answer a ‘what if’
question it is revised and modified till it does.
Commando Krav Maga is a truly comprehensive system in that it deals not just with unarmed opponents but with aggressors using
sticks, knives, guns and improvised weapons etc. It also prepares the student to deal with attacks in a myriad of situations:
when surprised, when standing, when on the ground, when seated etc, all the time trying to find simple solutions to complex
problems.
Commando Krav Maga - Stun & Run
Being a Special Forces system it has a simple methodology underpinning it: engage and disengage. This means that students aren’t
taught to stay and engage in a long, drawn out conflict but instead to either escape before the fight starts or to ‘stun and run’
i.e. defend, attack and get out at the earliest opportunity. The student is also taught how to attempt to de-escalate a situation before
it even gets physical. By keeping the time engaged in a conflict to a minimum the chance of potential ‘what ifs’ (mentioned earlier)
occurring is reduced considerably.
Reality self defence is not simply about having a set of techniques that can be used to deal with attacks and threats but also
about having the right state of mind and an adequate fitness level. Commando Krav Maga addresses these areas as well. Through
training both combat fitness (Cosher Kravi) and the mental toughness needed to survive a street confrontation are developed.
The benefits of such training are not solely restricted to being able to successfully defend yourself but extend in to everyday
life, improving day-to-day fitness and individual self empowerment through increased confidence and self awareness.
